Android smartphone diagnostics: programs and methods. Ukrainians have created a mobile application for self-diagnosis of diseases First Aid Software diagnostics of diseases by analysis

A mobile application designed to help independently diagnose diseases based on symptoms was developed by Ukrainians - Vadim Grinchenko, who works as a designer at Groupon, and his sister Liliya Kurilets, the chief allergist of the city of Zaporozhye and a teacher at Zaporozhye State Medical University. The app is called First Aid and is free. For now it's only available for iOS, but an Android version should appear sometime in the future once enough investment has been raised.

The idea to develop such an application came to the developer after getting acquainted with all the delights of Ukrainian medicine. Moreover, in the end, when he got an appointment with a qualified specialist, it turned out that this most elusive disease turned out to be ordinary osteochondrosis. In general, having experienced everything firsthand, the developer decided to create an application to help others avoid a similar unenviable fate.

Of course, First Aid cannot be considered a personal therapist, much less use the recommendations it provides for self-medication. This is a kind of first aid, which, in fact, is reflected in its name. With its help, you can try to determine the cause of physical pain, get acquainted with probable diagnoses and understand how critical the situation could potentially be in order to decide whether to immediately seek help from a specialist or whether you can postpone the visit a little if, for example, it is a common sprain muscles or slight bruise.

The application works on the same principle as a doctor - he asks relevant questions (“where does it hurt, how does it hurt, where does it hurt, what accompanies the pain, what relieves the pain”) to determine the possible cause. In total, the application knows about the symptoms of 52 diseases, from ordinary soreness after the gym to fractures and stroke. The user can also export diagnostic results to a PDF file and then show it to the doctor at the appointment.

Vadim spent two years and about 5,000 euros of personal savings to create the application. The developers expect that its development will be of interest to Ukrainian doctors, who will be able to use it to provide medical consultations online. For this purpose, the application provides a corresponding function. It is reported that in Ukraine this service works for free; for users in other countries it will be a paid option.

Among the rest, we can note the button for quickly calling an ambulance in any part of the world.

As for monetization, the developer plans to make money from paid medical consultations in Europe and the USA; he is now completing the legal preparation of all the necessary documents for online consultation.

At the moment, the application is available in three languages: Ukrainian, Russian and English. Who knows, perhaps in the future such a famous clinic as Mayo Clinic will be among First Aid’s partners.

Today, the development of mobile applications has affected almost all areas of human life, and medicine is no exception.

Thanks to smartphones, we can say that our health is literally in our hands, since many applications allow us to track all kinds of human medical indicators, and generally increase and improve the quality of knowledge in this area. Medical apps, like home or car first aid kits, are becoming increasingly necessary in today's world. This brief review presents the best, in our opinion, medical applications. Young mothers, doctors of various specialties, and simply those who are interested in medicine in general will find useful programs here.

When purchasing a smartphone/tablet or out of curiosity, many users want to check the performance of the device, basic functions and sensors.

The external state of the gadget can be assessed without additional utilities, but the “filling” requires a more thorough approach. The easiest way to check the main sensors and functions is to use. They are very convenient and easy to use, but there are two significant drawbacks:

  1. They provide insufficient information.
  2. They do not work on all smartphones (for example, some Chinese smartphones understand only half of the requests).

Diagnostic programs

The developers offer a huge list of utilities with similar functions to check the functionality of various sensors, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cameras, processors and much more. We selected the most functional and useful ones and tested them on our experimental Xiaomi Redmi 2.

The order in which the software is reviewed is random. In general, the applications are equivalent, but Phone Doctor Plus has a slight advantage - it is simple and focused on .

The Home screen displays general information about the device. To make them as comprehensive as possible, you need to go to the second tab, where more than 20 tests are located, including multi-touch, accelerometer, GPS and much more (see screenshots). Each of them is performed separately, some ask you to do a simple action, such as shaking your phone or inserting headphones. Upon successful completion, a green icon with a checkmark appears - this means that the function works correctly.

The program came from the computer sphere (Windows), where it managed to prove itself from the best side. The Android version was no exception, which is why it was included in our selection.

The main screen looks nondescript, there is not even a hint of a minimalist design. But that’s not what we’re here for, so let’s move on to functionality. AIDA64 provides information on the following points:

  • System: device model, board, RAM, storage and more.
  • CPU: exact processor model, technological process, bit rate, number of cores, frequency range and, most importantly, load. If the latter constantly strives for 100 percent, it means either the smartphone is clogged and requires a comprehensive one, or there are serious problems with the chipset.
  • Display: All information about the display, including resolution, technology, diagonal, video accelerator and OpenGL version. Pay attention to “GPU load” - it should only occur in games or when working with graphics. In normal mode, the indicator on the tested gadget was zero.
  • Net: operator, country, provider code and other details. To check the connection, it’s easier to just call someone and go online.
  • Battery: charge level, battery condition, temperature and capacity. For a detailed battery check, please refer to.
  • Android: version, API level, build ID, and so on.
  • Devices: Rear and front cameras with descriptions of features such as stabilization, auto exposure, flash and other functions. Comprehensive information about the video processor.
  • Temperature components in Celsius ().
  • Sensors Lines with constantly changing numbers will appear on the screen. They characterize the operation of a gyroscope, compass, accelerometer and others. When you move your smartphone slightly, the numbers should change. Let us remind you that this is much easier to check using Phone Doctor.
  • Applications. List of installed games and programs.
  • Codecs, folders, system files.

A list of tests is immediately presented on the main screen. Let's get started!

  • Sensor status: similar to AIDA64, only more understandable and in Russian. There are also properties of each of the sensors.
  • Wi-Fi status: information about the connection, not very useful.
  • Telephony: operator, signal, provider code and other uselessness.
  • GPS status: satellites, signal transmission accuracy, latitude, longitude, bearing.
  • Battery: charge level, capacity, technology, voltage, temperature and battery condition.
  • Multitouch test: touch the screen with all fingers, check the operation of the display. For this it is better to use .
  • Camera: basic information, the previous program has a more informative and complete list.
  • System information.

Self-diagnosis applications are the first step towards identifying a disease or an initial assessment of your health, much more adequate than panic-stricken reading of forums on the Internet. They cannot replace a medical examination (at least not yet), but they can be excellent assistants. We have selected five iOS and Android applications that will be useful in different life situations.

LoveMySkin creates an almost complete map of the human body, on which you can mark emerging - or erase disappearing - moles. The application has a built-in clear and short ABCD table (A - asymmetry, B - borders, C - color, D - diameter), which will help distinguish dangerous moles from non-dangerous ones. In addition to these four characteristics, the date of appearance and change of the mole is also noted; if there are any suspicions, you can mark the item “mark as a concern” for a specific mole so that you don’t forget to show it to the doctor if necessary.

Not quite a diagnostic app, more of a preventative one, helps allergy sufferers plan their day. Zyrtec AllergyCast measures the levels of allergenic pollen in the air (and different types), sends alarm notifications when levels become dangerously high, and allows you to note symptoms and assess your condition for the day. So far there are only three signs (itching, runny nose and sneezing), but soon there should be more. The nice thing is a beautiful interface and the opportunity to win certificates for Zyrtec drugs.

Hearing problems affect all age groups (the creators of uHear cite a surprising statistic: 65% of people under 65 experience them), so it’s important to periodically monitor the performance of your hearing aid. This can also be done using a smartphone; The app allows you to take three tests: determining the quietest sound you can hear, testing your ability to recognize speech in noise, and a short questionnaire. All tests take no more than six minutes, but allow you to assess the current state and dynamics of hearing abilities.

iTriage is a library of symptoms, diseases, medications and doctors in which you can’t get lost. The information is presented in an accessible manner (though in English), is easy to search and allows you to find out more about your current physical condition, wherever you are: at home, at the airport, at the university (the age limit for downloading is 17 years). One of the most valuable features of the application is the search for nearby hospitals and other medical facilities; True, it will be of little use in Russia, but it is indispensable when traveling. Otherwise, iTriage is a truly functional application that allows you to make not only diagnostics to the extent that only a non-doctor can do, but also to relieve paranoid thoughts like “my leg is cramped, I’m going to die soon.”

First Aid is an initiative of the American Red Cross; the application contains a collection of first aid instructions - its effectiveness was noted by the main site about medical applications iMedicalApps, which is trusted by Stanford. Thanks to its intuitive interface, it can be used directly in emergency situations - identify symptoms and quickly take suggested first aid measures - or as an educational resource where you can learn everything you need BEFORE an accident and in more detail.
